THE FOUNDER

The founder: Books for children who love to look closer and for adults who remember how.

Victoria Kayser-Cuny is a mother of young adults and an aunt to four nieces. She writes with one guiding idea in mind: to create children’s stories that invite wonder, attention, and a gentler way of exploring the unknown.

Trained as a scientist, Victoria’s background is in molecular genetics—from CRISPR and cloning to transgenesis and interspecies gene transfer, as well as work involving cell lines and the study of living systems under extreme or simulated conditions including UV and space-radiation exposure in astronaut health research. Over time, her curiosity expanded into molecular cytogenetics (postgraduate training at a medical faculty), and into fields that explore life across deep time: paleogenetics, evolutionary genetics, bioarchaeology, and primatology. She is also drawn to the chemistry of life, from subatomic particles and elements to the mechanisms through which DNA is built.

She also completed the first year of a PhD program in Education, focused on the school and social inclusion of children with disabilities, with a strong interest in Montessori-inspired approaches. In 2025, following a doctoral module at the Institut Pasteur, she published a short story on Zenodo, extending her reflections at the intersection of science, storytelling, and transmission.

During the Covid lockdowns, Victoria chose to bring science and visual narrative together by training in natural science and scientific illustration at the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History (330+ hours). The course Children’s Books: Science & Art marked a turning point and the start of her editorial work: stories where imagination is not the opposite of knowledge, but a doorway into it—through observation, curiosity, and the joy of learning.
